Non-Germans* may take out policies in the foreign insurance “Care College Basic/Comfort/Premium” during their stay for the purpose of training or further education in Germany or in a state of the EU or Schengen area.

outgoing:

Germans* or Austrians** may take out policies in the foreign insurance “Care College Basic/Comfort/Premium” during their stay worldwide for the purpose of training or further education, except in the states of the NAFTA (USA, Canada and Mexico).

The maximum age in both cases is 35 at the time of the conclusion of the policy.

*Any person, independently of his/her actual nationality, will be deemed a German if he/she has had his/her permanent residence in Germany for at least two years and is temporarily staying abroad.

**Any person, independently of his/her actual nationality, will be deemed a Austrian if he/she has had his/her permanent residence in Austria for at least two years and is temporarily staying abroad.

• The minimum term of the foreign insurance “Care College Basic/Comfort/Premium” is 1 month.
• The maximum term of the policy, including any and all extensions, is 5 years.

• The insurance policy expires at the agreed point in time.
• There is no automatic extension.

• Applications for extension must be submitted before the policy as originally concluded expires.
• Applications for extension must be submitted in writing. You will find the appropriate form >here<.
• Applications for extension can be submitted without observing specific form by e-mail, fax or post. We require your policy number, the name of the insured person and the new expiration date of the policy so that we can process your application for extension.
• When a policy has been extended, there is insurance cover only for insured events and medical problems which occur or arise for the first time after application for the extension of the policy has been made.

• Premature termination may only be applied for in written form (e-mail, fax, post). The termination application can be given without observing specific form. We require the following information for processing of your application: policy number, name of the insured person, original expiration of the policy, desired date of expiration, reason for termination and, as appropriate, documentation of the departure.
• Reimbursement of excess payment of premiums is possible, subject to the deduction of a processing fee of €5.00.
• A premature termination is possible in the following cases:
  1. If the stay abroad has been prematurely ended.
  2. If the participation in language courses or projects is ended and the prerequisites for the policy no longer exist.
  3. If you begin a course of study and are subject to compulsory health insurance.
  4. If the entry visa is not granted, or if the entry to the country does not take place for other reasons, a written cancellation of the application before the commencement of the policy is possible.

Shortly after you have completed and sent off your online application, you will, after a positive plausibility check, receive a confirmation email to the email address you provided. This email contains the following documents in PDF format, which you can print out and use:

• Insurance certificate (policy)
• Treatment vouchers
• Questionnaire regarding insurability
• Terms and conditions of insurance

Furthermore, within two working days, you will receive your insurance confirmation with your insurance card and your insurance certificate by mail. If you pay by bank transfer, you will also receive your invoice at the same time.
Should a positive plausibility check not be possible, we will contact you in writing within two working days.

You may, giving your policy number, transfer the full premium to the following account, submit a SEPA Direct Debit Mandate or make a cash payment at any bank or post office bank. Please make sure you include the full policy number whenever you make a transfer or cash payment.

The simplest and securest method is to grant a SEPA Direct Debit Mandate. Unfortunately, this is possible only for German or Austrian bank accounts. If you give a SEPA Direct Debit Mandate, please make sure that your account always has sufficient funds on deposit.

If you have not yet opened an account, you can make a cash payment, giving your policy number in the space for the use of the payment, at any bank or post office bank.

In principle, every type of medical treatment which is considered necessary and which did not begin before commencement of the insurance term (prior illness) is covered. The foreign health insurance includes medical treatment by specialists (e.g., orthopaedists, gynaecologists) and in-patient treatment in the general care class, excluding treatment by the head physician.
