About FAFA

FAFA LogoFAFA is a not-for-profit association which was founded in 2006 by African and German families in Linz on the Rhine with the goal of giving economically disadvantaged children and youth in Africa a beacon of hope. The organization provides primary aid in the form of medical care and water supply and gives start-up assistance for a better future through elementary education and vocational training programs.

Since its founding, FAFA has enabled the building of a vocational training center and an elementary school, the remodelling of two elementary schools and the installment of six wells at various public elementary schools in Nigeria. These projects have been implemented in cooperation with its local partner organizations and with the support, among others, of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Care Concept AG.

Nigeria: Free primary school education and water supply
The situation

Schule alt mit defektem Dach etc.FAFA is particularly involved in the southeast of Nigeria, in the former Biafra region. The whole area of the Igbos has been completely neglected and left behind for 35 years. The few public schools that exist are dilapidated and overcrowded.
Schule alt mit defektem Dach etc.Nationwide free primary school education does not exist.
Toilette altWithout a primary school education, most children have no future prospects and fall victim to child labor and exploitation. Furthermore, there are no sanitary facilities at the schools and there is no water, neither for drinking nor for washing the hands. Most people draw the water for drinking, washing and cooking from the river, which has led to countless deaths, especially among children.

How your project sponsorship helps

Schule neuIn Nkpor, a city of 109,000 residents, the construction of an elementary school is planned, which will provide free primary education for about 1,000 children aged 5 to 12 from the Akuzor and Oze districts. The children of these districts have no possibility to go to school because the nearest public school is more than 12 kilometers away, and families with many children usually lack the financial means to pay for transportation. Currently only 20% of the children in Oze go to school, and only 40% in Akuzor. Many of these children work in the nearby stone quarry, in the fields or as street vendors.

The installation of a well to supply the students, teachers and surrounding households (about 10,000 people) with clean drinking water is also planned on the school grounds.

VorschulbereichFAFA is joining forces with its local partner organization, the women's self-help group WURD (Women Union For Rural Development), with the goal of being a beacon of hope for the children of Nkpor by providing them with a solid primary education and securing a water supply in accordance with the Millennium Development Goals.

Construction of a vocational training center in Nkpor

Ausbildung: SchweißerThere is no well-functioning infrastructure that can offer young people the chance to receive a good education and vocational training. Young people do not receive any support from the state to free themselves from dependency and learn to stand on their own feet economically. Our goal is to address and use the potential of these young people.
Ausbildung: SchweißerFAFA would like to provide the young people with future prospects and create the foundation for secure jobs in order to effectively fight the causes of poverty. Since June 2010, after a construction period of only seven months, a center for vocational training in the fields of catering and welding has existed. The building is equipped with sanitary facilities operating with the use of electricity and running water and includes an administrative office, classrooms, storage rooms and a room for the sale of products made by the trainees themselves.

All this was also made possible through the donations of the international health insurance provider, Care Concept AG.
